A household staple for most American families, butter is one of the easiest items you can learn to make from scratch. Only requiring one ingredient, you can have creamy, homemade butter free of unnecessary oils or additives for less than $4.
The only ingredient necessary is heavy whipping cream, or even better, raw cream from a local dairy. Raw cream can be hard to come by and sometimes not worth the price you pay for the amount you get, so heavy whipping cream works just as well.
Methods
There are a few different ways you can go about making your butter.
The hardest and longest method is by dumping your heavy cream into an airtight container and aggressively shaking it until your butter forms.
Next you can use a hand mixer. Simply pour your cream into a bowl and whisk with your hand mixer until your butter forms.
The third method, the method I use and the quickest, utilizes a stand mixer.
How To
Step 1: Grab your helper and pour your desired amount of heavy whipping cream into the bowl.
Step 2: Turn your mixer on high and let it mix until solids beginning forming. This takes about 10 minutes depending on how much cream you use. I typically do one cup at a time.

Step 3: Once you see solids separate from liquids, it’s time to shut your mixer off. The solids are your butter and the liquid is buttermilk.

Step 4: Strain your butter over a fine mesh strainer. Make sure you have a bowl underneath to catch your buttermilk!
Step 5: Squeeze your butter to make sure you get all the buttermilk out. Pour your buttermilk into an airtight container and store it in the fridge for later use. (Buttermilk pancakes are always a good way to use that up!)

Step 6: Rinse your butter under cold water and pat to dry. Now you can shape it if you want to but I just put mine in an airtight container that is easy to scoop out of.
Step 7: The fun part! Now is when you can flavor it to your liking. Some people like to add decorative edible flowers and herbs but I just add a little bit of salt and I find that to be perfect.

And there you have it!
Fresh butter, perfectly flexible to your tastebuds!
